Melita -I think that is a great point that for media empire bloggers maybe its about now needing to take the time to articulate thoughts more 'professionally'.

Corrina - glad to hear the post has raised some discussion! Thanks for the comments.

Ann, a fascinating piece and excellent point regarding the role of bloggers and their place in the media. I'm not sure what the answer is, but it is certainly generating discussion around our office!

If personal attack-style comments are not permitted on the mamamia site, then it should be articulated more professionally that what you have quoted Freedman saying in this post. I think you've made a great point that 'mini media empires' are transcending the boundaries of 'this is just my personal blog' and with that comes different ground rules. I see Wendy Harmer on her site The Hoopla is grappling with this also. As far as I can see, she is addressing the criticisms and complaints of her readers far better than Mia Freedman.

Totally agree Lyndal! Ive tried also making gluten free bread with the bread machine and have wasted about five packets of not cheap mix in the process. In the end decided to go with the bought loaf when I am feeling need for a bread hit.

I cannot digest wheat, and have definitely noticed the sudden 'trend' of gluten intolerance.. i have decided to somewhat rejoice in this as it means that I am no longer looked at like i have seven heads when i place my special needs meals, but also that i see a lot more lyndal friendly menu options! Having said that, i inherited a bread machine a few months ago to 'save money' but when a gluten/wheat free bread mix costs the same as the loaves of bread i tend to just grab the bread... lazy lyndal!
