Funding platform lets you pitch your creative project to a worldwide audience

How much design goes into the planning and development of city and how does that design affect our lives. This is the premise of an indevelopment documentary film – Urbanized- being made by Gary Hustwit and described on Kickstart, a funding platform for the creative world. This project is seeking to raise capital on Kickstart and if you provide $35 or more you get a copy of the DVD edition of “Urbanized” when the film is released on video in late 2011/early 2012 and also receive a series of limited-edition “Urbanized” postcards.

I came across Kickstart a few months ago and I love the premise. As a screenwriter and past short film maker how could I not? To be able to have a platform to pitch your project to a world wide audience so you can raise capital has to be a life line for so many artists and creators.

Are these type of websites the beginning of the democratisation of art? Is this the beginning of the end of the “gate keepers” to artistic products (think government art funding bodies and production companies). Who knows?
