My name is Ann. I’m Irish but for the last 15 odd years I call Melbourne home. I’ve lived in London, Edinburgh, Germany and The Netherlands but think that Australia is pretty cool.

I love that you can get go the beach in the summer and in the winter head to the Victoria Alps to experience the snow. Added to that Melbourne’s got terrific Autumns and fantastic food – what more could a girl want! Plus most importantly my gorgeous husband and three kids live here. Enough said.

This site…

I like to call this blog / site my ‘mood board’. As such it is not a ‘typical’ professional website where I will just list professional projects I am working on or services I offer. The boundaries between personal and professional are blurring. We do so much work online and connect with people via social networks it becomes a little more difficult to separate the two for most people. This blog/ site is a recognition of this.

More importantly lot’s of things influence my ideas.

You might see something in a thrift or opp shop or on the street or at the market by chance and it may offer you inspiration on a project you are working on. Ideas you had not thought about previously. I use this website as a place where I can document what’s catching my attention be it on online, writing, books, design, art or sustainable living. It also helps to act as a ‘bookmarker’ of sorts!

My background

I’ve got a background in Psychology and Community Development and worked in this area for several years, both in the UK and Australia before moving into the online industry over 10 years ago. Since that time I’ve worked in online with a diverse range of not for profits and for for profit businesses helping them make sense and grow their ‘online persona’.

I founded Babysitterdirectory.com.au an online business connecting parents with babysitters and nannies in 2007. I closed this in 2011 and learned valuable lessons on the way (mostly about entrepreneurship and the need to go in fast and hard when growing your business! ).

In 2010 I founded GenerousParty, a site allowing parents to plan charitable children’s birthday parties. I sold this in February 2011.

I currently work part time as a Digital Producer with the Cancer Prevention Centre at Cancer Council Victoria and get to work with some amazing and passionate people and those at the forefront of behaviour change communication. I also work as an online and social media consultant to other not for profits, start ups and SME. Needless to say the views in this website are my own.

In November 2011 I launched www.blogforsocialgood.com.au, a place where in time I am hoping not for profits and bloggers can connect. If you are a blogger why not add your blog?

In 2012 I’ve got some exciting projects lined up including dipping my toes in digital publishing and will try my hand at digital printing my first fiction novella.  Wish me luck!

You can connect with my on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn – links above.

Thanks!
